About the Piece
It was race to the finish between REM, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and The Cure. The Cure won but not for any specific reason. My all time favorite Cure album is “Seventeen Seconds” to which I pay a small tribute in my piece “The Forest” seen on my website. The Cure was one of the first bands which found their way into my vast record collection so many years ago. One such rare piece of vinyl is a bootleg recording of The Cure live at The Marquee in 1979 just one year after they had released their first single “Killing an Arab” on the Small Wonder label. The ticket price was £1.00. The opening band was another fledgling group you may have heard of; Joy Division.
